The Mascara Barb (Dawkinsia assimilis) is a large, impressive barb from the Western Ghats of India, named for the bold black markings around its eyes. One of the larger barb species, reaching 4-5 inches, it has a robust silver body with red-tipped fins and striking eye markings. Active, peaceful, and best kept in schools of 5+ in larger community aquariums of 55+ gallons. An uncommon and underrated barb species that makes a bold statement without the aggression of tiger barbs.
