Barb - Black Ruby

The Black Ruby Barb (Pethia nigrofasciata) is a beautiful, underrated barb from Sri Lanka. Males in peak condition display a deep burgundy-red body with striking black vertical bars - the coloration earned its name well. At XL size these are fully mature, fully colored specimens ready to display immediately. A peaceful schooling fish best kept in groups of 6+. Compatible with most community fish of similar size. Prefers a planted tank with some open swimming space. Water temp 72-79F, pH 6.0-7.5. An excellent alternative to tiger barbs for hobbyists wanting a more mellow barb with exceptional color.
