Florida Spotted Gar
A prehistoric predator native to Florida and Georgia, the Florida Spotted Gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus) grows to 24-36 inches and commands attention in any large display aquarium. Its armored, cylindrical body and elongated, tooth-filled snout are unmistakably ancient. Despite its fearsome look it is relatively tolerant of similarly sized tankmates, preferring slow ambush tactics over open aggression. Best kept by experienced hobbyists in tanks of 180 gallons minimum - 300+ gallons for adults. Requires a tight-fitting lid, strong filtration, and a carnivorous diet of meaty frozen or live foods. Water temp 75-82F, pH 6.5-7.5.
