The Chocolate Cichlid (Hypselecara temporalis) is a large, peaceful South American cichlid with a gorgeous earthy coloration that shifts from warm chocolate brown to olive-gold with reddish overtones as adults mature. Grows to 12 inches. One of the more community-friendly large cichlids, it can coexist with large tetras, geophagus, and similarly sized peaceful fish. Prefers soft, slightly acidic water and a well-decorated tank with driftwood and plants. Omnivorous; a varied diet of quality pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and vegetable matter keeps them in best condition. Water temp 76-82F, pH 6.0-7.2.
